Our design and fabrication process is an example and a test bed of how we think bigger architectures should be made into being, for a kinder, fairer future. A process that needs to be true, otherwise it is not worth it.
Process
Each Shelterhood model starts in play. Observing our kids and their friends explore, absorb and react to the world. How they need their own house. Remembering when we were their age. Playing with them. We imagine familiar and new actions and feelings. Created in the interaction between children and future little shelters, where building by playing is possible.
Building by playing
All our wood comes exclusively from well trusted foresters, taking care of forests we have walked and stayed in, cut and transformed by workers in fair and healthy conditions.
You can find more information about each source in the Forests section.
Sourcing
With each purchase, we send you a digital card with the location of the tree and/or forest the wood of your shelter grew up in. The card also includes the name of the logger, the sawmill person, and the carpenter.
Tracing
Once we have the physical and mental material, we continue a patient transformation into parts, pieces and the whole. The physical and mental matter changes along the way through digital twins, full-scale prototypes, hand drawings and conversations with the carpenters we work with.
All our products stand the test of time, in real time, so we make sure they are market ready.
Woodworking
Packaging is a huge source of waste nowadays. All our designs include the minimisation of packaging needs, sometimes they travel flatpack, others in a solid bundle. You can reuse these boxes several times.
Some of our families are designed without the need of a cardboard box. In most of our models, cardboard packaging is optional. If you choose this option, the cardboard boxes we use are standard size, so in case you loose the original one, you can easily fetch another.
Packaging
We only work with transport companies who can ensure that our products are conveniently stored, treated well on the road, and handled with care.
